Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
