Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior representative commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
